I'M THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN IN MEDIA SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

I was elected in June and the announcement was just posted, so I guess it's official now!

Here's a glimpse of my President's message from the newsletter. And if you're in LA, come to our mixer on the 24th.

I am honored and excited to be President of the Alliance for Women in Media Southern California Affiliate for the 2016-2017 term. As the local affiliate to a national nonprofit founded in 1952, our mission is to advance the impact of women in media by educating and acting as a resource to our members, the industry and our community. The key word here is “community" - we seek not only to advance the impact of women in media, but to also empower women in our industry with the resources needed to further their career development. Our members enjoy networking opportunities with individuals working at major studios, networks, radio stations, and production and media companies. In addition, they have access to educational programs, speaker events on timely topics led by industry leaders, and scholarship and mentoring opportunities.

Our organization welcomes both women and men in all mediums of entertainment. We pride ourselves on putting together events that help our community. The purpose of our most popular event, Speed Mentoring, as well as our mixers and panel events is to inform those who wish to work their way up the industry ladder and to help our members navigate the professional world of media. We also honor the achievements of women in media with our annual Genii Awards. Some notable past Genii winners include Betty White, Ellen DeGeneres, Whoopi Goldberg, Julie Andrews, and Lucille Ball, to name a few.

This year is a big one for us. We’re reaching out into the Southern California media community and bringing you in. We want your input. We want you to be a part of our organization and to help us be bigger, better, and bolder! Join us on Wednesday, August 24th, at 7:00pm for our membership meeting (members only) and for a mixer (open to non-members) starting at 7:45pm at El Torito Grill (15301 Ventura Boulevard, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403) to find out more about us and to get involved.
